iPhone Configuration Utility Is a Great Troubleshooting Tool

Apple’s iPhone Configuration Utility 1.0.1, released late last week, isn’t designed as an end-user troubleshooting tool. Instead it’s meant to “create, maintain, and sign configuration profiles, and track and install provisioning profiles and authorized applications” allowing enterprise users to create configuration profiles for device deployment.
The Configuration Utility provides two functions, however, that can be very useful for troubleshooting:
- It can uninstall applications directly from the host computer. This capability can remove stubborn apps that cannot be deleted directly from the iPhone. Some third-party applications can cause systemic issues, which can be resolved through their removal via a host computer.
- It allows easy access to the iPhone’s console log, showing application and general system errors, successful or failed attempts to connect to networks and much more. These logs can prove invaluable for pinpointing otherwise elusive issues.
The iPhone Configuration Utility is currently available only for Mac OS X as a 9.1MB download.

You’re right. Nice tool. Sure seems to do a lot of debugging according to the log. I wonder if anyone calling for iPhone support has been asked to use it for troubleshooting or fixing of any certain issue? Like any device, you need a toolkit or utility sooner or later. It would be nice if Disk Warrior (Alsoft)
created a routine for iPhone.

Not sure how people are using this to uninstall iTunes Store apps.
When I go to the Applications tab, the Uninstall button is grayed out in all listed apps. When I hover the cursor over a button, a yellow note pops up that says “You cannot uninstall this application because it was purchased from the iTunes App Store.”

Also, its only for Mac OS X 10.5. It won’t work with 10.4.

I wish it would allow you to set up different “Profiles” (such as available on other 3G phones).
Forexample:
1. WiFi-E: at home or at the office I use Wi-Fi and switch off 3G to prolong battery life
2. E-GPS: in the car I switch on location services, burt limit myself to Edge to save battery.
3. 3G-GPS: useful while traveling with the iPhone plugged in to a car charger.
Can someone suggest this to Apple or a smart App-developer?
