WinPwn 2.0.0.3 successfully jailbreaks iPhone 3G for Windows

Earlier this week, the iPhone Dev Team released WinPwn 2.0, a tool that allows Windows users to jailbreak iPhone 3G units. However the initial release was affected by an issue that caused the Ipwner component to crash. A new version, 2.0.0.3, has now been released, resolving this and other issues.

iPhone OS 2.1 beta reveals possible turn-by-turn directions

Apple has released a beta edition of iPhone OS 2.1 along with an accompanying, updated SDK. The new SDK makes a few API changes that could indicate the addition of turn-by-turn directions in Google Maps or third-party applications. Reportedly added to the CLLocation (CoreLocation) library are:

So far, most applications that make use of the iPhone’s location services, including the iPhone 3G’s GPS hardware, simply map the user’s location once then present context-sensitive information. Fix for iPhone 3G GPS problems: turn off 3G

Several users have reported in an issue in which the iPhone 3G’s A-GPS unit fails to properly discover physical location. As described by Apple Discussions poster “Zlog”:

“GPS in particular was a problem i had with my wife’s 8GB, as it located us in texas. We’re in Oregon.”
