One million iPhone 3Gs, Ten million AppStore apps sold in first weekend

Apple announced that iPhone 3G sales surpassed one million units on Sunday, just three days after the device’s launch on Friday, July 11. The Phone 3G is now available in 21 countries - Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and the US and will go on sale in France on July 17.
The company also said iPhone and iPod touch users have already downloaded more than 10 million applications from the App Store since its launch late last week. A statement read, “more than 800 native applications are now available on the App Store, with more than 200 offered for free and more than 90 percent priced at less than $10.”

More than 90% of these were likely entirely free. I find it hard to choke down the thought that every single of the one million iPhone users paid for 10 apps. The AppStore is pretty dismal right now, perhaps a handful of apps actually worth spending any money on. But fear not, a Jailbreak is coming, and NES.app to follow shortly after (yes, it is already compiling!)

The app store has some great apps… voice dialing amoungst them. Lots of interesting innovative ideas like Telegraph…

I’m excited for Apple that the iPhone is a great success for them. its great to see just how much innovation can cause such a big technological buzz.
I just wanted to voice a little frustration that Apple cannot keep the iPhone 3G in stock for more than 5 minutes at any of the stores in the San Francisco Bay Area. I went to the local store this morning because the Apple site said it had the 8GB iPhone. when I got there, there was already a line and an Apple employee standing outside saying it was already sold out.
Why is it that Apple cannot keep up with the demand in any of their stores? I can understand that it is popular and they can only deal with so many customers at one time, but being sold out before the store even opens is unacceptable, its creating a false demand. They only had a limited number of iPhones 20-50 in stock to begin with from what the line looked like. For the entire day.
AT&T on the other hand is taking reservations for the iPhone even though they say its first come first serve. I’ve called all the stores within a 30 mile radius of San Francisco and they all say the minimum wait time is 3 weeks.
If Apple and AT&T want more customers to purchase the iPhone it would be in their interest to keep them in stock at their stores in LARGE quantities to reflect the demand. Unless the goal is to create the hype over it. We already know that it is a great product, just let us buy one and start using it so you can post the profits on your books.
Anyone else as frustrated at this process as I am.
