iPhone 3G firmware has FM radio support, FOTA

Posted 19 June 2008 @ 11am in News

Reports from users in possession of the latest iPhone 3G firmware indicate that the device will have support for both FM radio and FOTA (firmware over the air).

FM radio support means that the iPhone 3G may be able to make use of devices like Apple’s own “iPod Radio Remote,” which includes an FM tuner and allows users to listen to FM radio stations. Current iPhone and iPod touch models are incompatible with the radio remote.

Firmware over the air support means that Apple will theoretically be able to deliver software and firmware updates over the iPhone’s cellular network connection, potentially allowing re-locking of unlocked devices and feature enhancements that do not require connection to a host computer.

All good news but the iPhone 3G is still MISSING essential features:-

CAPACITY: Start at 16G and go to 64G Min
3G VIDEO CALLING:- the poor camera on the back should be on the front to allow 3G video Calling
CAMERA: Please a decent 3 or 5MPIX camera with mirror, light and decent lens for pictures AND VIDEO
BATTERY: Removable batteries please for us that travel and buy a spare!
DOCK: it needs to be shipped WITH the dock not as a unobtainable extra

as it is I am tempted to avoid the 3G and get a Samsung Tocco or Instinct Plus as 32G ipod unless there is a revision to include these in 6 months.

Please apples these are features your customers (both business and private) are looking for. you have spoilt a possibly world beater by being MEAN on features that people want. Take a look at the Samsung 3G models with touch that are flying out the shops for an example on how it should be.
