iPhone OS 2.0 screen reveals “Enable 3G” option

Posted 12 May 2008 @ 10am in News

Representing perhaps the best evidence to date of a pending 3G iPhone release, a screenshot of the current pre-release iPhone OS 2.0 build shows a setting for turning 3G capabilities on or off. The setting is accompanied by the text “Using 3G loads data faster, but decreases battery life.”

See our previous coverage regarding what 3G capabilities for the iPhone really mean.

So here’s a (possibly bad) question. Does there HAVE to be a harware change to the iPhone in order to get 3G once available? Or could the 2.0 OS alone be enough to offer 3G?

no you won’t be able to since our current iPhones do not have 3G hardware built in. Our SIM cards may support it, but that’s it.
