Vodafone says iPhone coming to ten new countries

Posted 6 May 2008 @ 9am in News

Vodafone has made an official, albeit brief announcement indicating that the company has signed an agreement with Apple to sell the in ten of its extant markets around the world “later this year.” Among the designated countries: Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey.

Interetingly, Telecom Italia also claims that it will be shipping the iPhone in Italy. This turn of events would represent a departure from Apple’s prior one-provider-per-country model.

Vodafone previously sought an injunction against T-Mobile, the iPhone’s official carrier in Germany, stating that future sales of mobile phones in Germany with “these kinds of restrictive SIM locks and tariff contracts goes against the interests of consumers.”
