Fix for problems with iPhone syncing under Mac OS X 10.5.2
Posted 13 February 2008 @ 3pm in Troubleshooting
A number of users are reporting problems with synchronizing their iPhones after applying the recently release Mac OS X 10.5.2 update. Issues include iTunes not recognizing the iPhone, error messages during sync, or incomplete syncs.
The fix in most cases? Reinstall iTunes 7.6. Simply download the package, run the installer and restart.
Failing that, try deleting the following files:
- /System/Library/Extensions/AppleMobileDevice.kext
- /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DeviceLink.framework
- /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework
- /Library/Receipts/AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg
then reinstall iTunes 7.6.
There are several other workarounds for sync issues, including connecting the iPhone directly to a computer’s USB port rather than through a USB hub; switching USB ports if you’re having problems with one and more. See this article for more.

I have tried the above but am unable to sync ical, addressbook, mail accounts and bookmarks. Music, pictures and video is fine. I have the latest firmware but my phone is completely unlocked.

I tried all of the above and it did not fix the problem. I still get a message that Contacts did not get updated because the iPhone disconnected, although it is clearly still connected and showing up in iTunes.

I tried deleting the files and reinstalling iTunes. The sync still doesn’t work, but more importantly, one of my USB ports does not link devices at all now even though it did before I deleted the files. It provides power to the devices, but it won’t link an iPhone or an external harddrive. The other USB port is fine. Any ideas on why I can’t link a device on one USB? Any other ideas for syncing the iPhone?

Figured out my issues. I needed to reset the Sync History in iSync and restart the computer.

I’ve tried all the suggestions — resetting Sync history, removing files, reinstalling iTunes — and new calendar events entered on the iPhone still do not show up in iCal. Deleting events on the iPhone does seem to delete items in iCal — go figure. Other apps (Address Book, Mail, Photos) sync just fine. Changes made on the iPhone show up on my laptop. I’m on OS 10.5.2 and iPhone 1.1.4.

I wonder if you can help me with an iPhone problem.
2 weeks ago I had to send away my 5 week old iphone. It worked fine and sychned with my G4 laptop (10.4.11) perfectly. The problem was the battery lasted only 6 hours. Yesterday I received a brand new 8gb replacement. I have had huge problems synching it with the same Mac as before. I get an error 0XE8000001, then it crashes my Mac and I have to restart, the error indicates a USB problem apparently. It is directly plugged in to the laptop (not via a hub). I have tried both usb ports. It seems to only cope with synching a few songs then it gives up on iphoto.
I spent hours yesterday on the Apple helpline and I get the feeling they now blame my laptop as it is out of warranty. I would have some sympathy for this view were it not for the fact that my previous phone worked perfectly. They said the usb ports could have developed faults. Do you have any suggestions?
Many Thanks

So basically I am reading all the comments and it looks like nothing really works. I had the Tiger operating system and it would sync my iphone just fine and now that I upgraded to leopard it wont even recognize the Iphone in itunes but Iphoto will. I have a completely unlocked phone. Is this partially why? Do they have new security against that on leopard? What do I do?
