One-step, “true” jailbreak/unlock for iPhone 1.1.3 released [updated]
Posted 11 February 2008 @ 8am in Applications, News
Developer Zibri has posted a package for both Mac OS X and Windows that claims to jailbreak, activate and unlock all iPhones running software/firmware 1.1.3 (including out-of-the-box [OTB]) devices. The package uses the “true” jailbreak method that the iPhone dev team was attempting to keep secret until the release of Apple’s official SDK rather than the previously divulged “soft-upgrade” method. Jailbreaking provides read/write iPhone filesystem access, allowing installation of unofficial third-party applications.
The jailbreak method includes incomplete instructions, however. Here’s what you need to do to make it work:
[UPDATE: See our Applications page for full jailbreak instructions]
Note that some users are still experiencing problems jailbreaking with this package, and that this package was released without the consent of the iPhone dev team who has been refining the method and attempting to keep it secret until the release of Apple’s iPhone SDK.
If this method fails for you, see our Applications page for full instructions on jailbreaking all firmware/software revisions.

Your definition of “one step” seems a little generous to me, especially if it also includes the requirement that I downgrade other software on my Mac or Windows system before I can enjoy the marvelous “one step.”

I’m a little confused on the downgrading to iTunes 7.4.2 via Pacifist. When I open the iTunes package via Pacifist, I have no clue what to do next. Could someone provide a bit more thorough instructions for this step. I’m currently running iTunes 7.6. Thanks.

but all those solutions are without the 04.03.13_G firmware/baseband, they rely on 04.02.13_G baseband, right???

This isn’t working for me either. I’m getting all kinds of weird errors. On OSX it tells me it can’t read the ‘.dat’ file. And I got a bus error at one point.
In XP, the .exe won’t even run. A window flashes for a second, then disappears.
Why post this solution if it’s not going to work on everyone’s setup?

just highlight the itunes folder you need to install and let pacifist do it’s thing.

I got a bus error. Running leopard. Can you let us know when a new version comes out and fixes it?

So does THIS solution use the new base-band, or does it downgrade it?

if the article states both “phones running 1.1.3″ and “including OOTB” then it would stand to reason that it includes jailbreaking and using 04.03.13_G (the 1.1.3 baseband)

Usage: ziphone [-u] [-a] [-j] [-i imei]
-u: Unlock (Only for 4.6 BL)[Using Unlock can fix many dead basebands]
-a: Activate
-j: Jailbreak [TRUE JailBreak for 1.1.3]
-i: Change IMEI Code (Only for 4.6 BL)
-v: Verbose boot (debug)

Ran, but never completed. I waited 45 minutes & it did nothing.

Ran it on 10.5 and got a Segmentation Fault.
Ran it on a Windows box and it worked immediately — there was no need to even install iTunes 7.6.

Er, that should read “no need to even install iTunes 7.4.2″ — 7.6, which was on the machine already, worked fine.

Hi,
I had a activatet and jailbreaked 1.1.2 OOB iphone with additional sim Card and all worked fine.
I testet this method here with ziphone.exe and itunes 7.424 Version, and now I have this boring “slide for emergency” screen with the connection cable in background, the phone is able to call and to get calls but no way to bekome the normal screen.
Any help there?

Ok, just got it to work on a PPC G4 on 10.5.2, must use iTunes 7.4.2 as explained (use Pacifist)…
Worked quick! This does NOT work on 10.4.11 yet… (I tried! — segmentation fault)

Here’s what I get after pressing “enter” in Terminal:
Macintosh:~ mak$ /Users/mak/Desktop/Safari\ Downloads/ZiPhone\ Folder/ZiPhone/ziphone -j
ZiPhone v1.0 by Zibri. http://zibree.blogspot.com
Source code available at: http://www.iphone-elite.org
Loading zibri.dat.
zibri.dat could not be opened for reading.
Many thanks in advance! -Mike

Will this Jailbreak/Unlock allow the iPhone to be used on an international carrier by switching SIM cards after the unlock is performed? Thanks!

I’m beginning to think I should just leave well enough alone, as I really don’t understand a lot of things that are posted here, but my question is… Is there are working solution yet that can fully UNLOCK and Jailbreak a version 1.1.1 to 1.1.3?
Posted by libertyforall1776

Do a chmod 777 on the .dat file to allow it to be read properly.
Also, ensure you have done a cd into the Zifone directory before starting any of this!

After some failed attempts last night with the older software (which has since been updated for macs from zibri’s site) I got it to work using the clear and concise instructions here:
http://despreiphone.wordpress.com/
they were the most straightforward and everything worked fine, started with a freshly restored 1.1.3 iphone and mac os 10.5.2 and itunes 7.4.2
I’m on AT&T so I did not unlock, but have jailbroken 1.1.3 and google maps locate me still works.

i am unable to get iTunes to load…. since the library was created in a newer version… I tired pacifier but I am unsure how it is supposed to work. The “updated” link give me an error that the file cannot be found on the server. WTF, I have been stuck with an un-jailbroken phone for a too long!

You’re right, the old iTunes doesnt like the new library. So back it up the iTunes Library and iTunes XML file to somewhere else (lives in your Users > Music > iTunes folder) and then delete them, the old, newly installed iTunes will create new ones and launch. But for the sake of redundancy, here’s what I did:
Back up old iTunes files.
Use Pacifist to install iTunes 7.4.1 over iTunes 7.6. You drag the iTunes package from the disk image you downloaded onto Pacifist and then select it and hit Install. You have to run in administrator mode and hit a few “overwrite” confirms to replace all the files you need.
Launch iTunes 7.4.1 and sync your phone with it. Run the installer as described above. It will either work, or it won’t (apparently). Your milage may vary but I’m of average intelligence, not a terminal geek and I got it to work. Your phone will eventually reboot and sync with iTunes again. I believe I received a “cannot activate my phone because of no signal” error at first and then my phone rebooted again and everything was fine.
After you’ve verified that your phone still makes calls and stuff you can now use the Installer.app to install stuff. You can also download iTunes 7.6 disk image from Apple and upgrade back to the current version of iTunes. One you’ve done this, replace your iTunes Library and XML file and you should be good to go. Good luck.

Anybody else having trouble opening the jailbreak zip files? I’m on a G5 tower and have downloaded the jailbreak from several different sites and none will open. I keep getting an “error while expanding message”. I’m also on OS10.4.10. Are Leopard zips not compatable with tiger? First time I’ve had this problem.

No but the link referenced here is dead now. Go to the link below for the latest info as well as a couple download links, there’s a new version he has refined over the past day or so, it’s up to a 2.0 release now.
