Listen to iPhone-stored music on your Mac
Posted 31 January 2008 @ 6pm in Desktop iPhone Apps, Guides/How-Tos
With iTunes 7.6, you can now manually manage music on your iPhone. You can’t, however, listen to music stored on your iPhone on your computer. A new release of ecamm’s iPhoneDrive makes that possible — if you’re on a Mac.
iPhoneDrive a tool created for storing files on the iPhone as if it were a removable drive, much like the iPod’s disk mode function (which is missing, by default, from the iPhone). It can copy music and other media to or from the iPhone or iPod Touch.
Version 1.4 allows you to play music stored on the iPhone or iPod Touch. The new release also lets you access (and copy) call logs, SMS messages, photos from the camera.
A 7-day trial version of the $20 application is available.

I believe that with version 1.33 of iPhone software and itunes 7.6 we received the ability to play music stored on our iPhone. I realized that for most of us this a useless added feature since the only way to get music on our phone is with our computer using iTunes. Please note this new ability only works on your syncing computer, further making this feature totally useless. This makes iPhone drive invaluable, however I haven’t used it so I really can’t tell you how well it works.

I meant to say they added the ability to play music stored on your phone through your computers speakers.

Worth noting that senuti lets you do the same thing, for free. Although I don’t think it does the disk-mode thing.

To work with iPodTouch and iPhone, you have to get the latest beta.

Contrary to enderwiggins23 comment, the ability to play music works on any computer. Tell just to iTunes not to open when you connect your iPod Touch or iPhone. Of course, you can transfer music from your iPod to any computer!

TouchCopy is a good alternative for PC users: http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.html

Yes indeed, you absolutely can play music stored on your iPhone through your computer using iTunes. I was just testing that out yesterday.
The only problem is, why would you want to get the files from your docked iPhone when you probably have the same files already on your computer in iTunes.

All i can say is that i have been a pc guy for years but i liked the look of apple products and thought i would try the iphone. I live in spain and we do not have the iphone here so my wife decided as a christmas present to purchase an unlocked phone for me. I took it out of the box turned it on and was amazed by how well made and intuitive it was to use. The phone confirmed my decision to convert all my systems to Apple at a potential cost of 20,000 euros. Then my phone updated to version 1.1.3 and i found it was locked. After several days of trying different things i managed to get it working again, great news, and although i was upset that apple have this business case in use with the networks i was relived that it was working again. Two days later however the lower half of the screen has stopped working. My decision to buy apple has changed, becasue in all my life of buying phones i have never had so many problems, other manufacturers do exactly what apple does for its network providers but they provide software that does not stop your phone working and are far more reliable. i will not buy anymore apple products as there are alot of other companies that are now supplying this type of phone with full warranty and no tie in to itunes, or a specific network, and if they are the unlocked phones are covered under warranty as long as it is only software changes. all this fuss over a bloody phone, is it really worth it, i dont think so.

@It8 All I can say is:
1) the phone didnt update itself, you pressed the button with full knowledge that you had a device that was either unlocked by third parties OR legitimately unlocked but not for use in Spain (e.g. Telefónica).
If Apple is not fixing your screen, I can surmise that Doña lt8 got the phone unlocked ‘by some guy’.
Most if not all phones come with their ‘infallible’ software ‘burned’ in with no hope of new features… why exactly were you hoping to upgrade your phone? What’s that? New goodies? I thought so. Now, tell me about all the times you got new features after purchase with your S-E, Nokias and SAGEMs. :)
2) Lastly, what relation does this tirade have to the topic at hand?
Since you have a hacked phone and don’t heed warnings in English let me add:
ADVERTENCIA: Si tu teléfono fue activado por terceros para funcionar en España, absténgase de actualizarlo hasta que haya una manera establecida de mantenerlo en funciones. Apple no tiene manera de saber qué se le hizo y cómo, por lo cual, no tienen responsabilidad de preservar esas alteraciones. :P
