Automatic, computer-less 1.1.3 jailbreak for 1.1.2 iPhone/iPod Touch released
Posted 29 January 2008 @ 5pm in News, Guides/How-Tos
If you have a jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch running software/firmware 1.1.2, you now have an automatic, graphical method for upgrading to a jailbroken 1.1.3 device without any host computer interaction. This is not “iJailbreak,” (another computer-less jailbreak method) but rather a solution developed and sanctioned by the iPhone dev team. “iJailbreak” uses the same process as now-defunct “Nate True” hack, meaning it breaks “Nikita” — Apple’s method for signing appications — and hence may prevent installation of official third-party applications when they are authorized by Apple. The new method, dubbed “Official 1.1.3 Upgrader,” preserves Nikita, and is also less problem-prone in general than iJailbreak.
To use the new method: On your jailbroken iPhone/iPod Touch 1.1.2, simply launch Installer, then go to “All Packages,” then select and install “Official 1.1.3 Upgrader.” Make sure you are connected via WiFi and a charge source before beginning this procedure. All necessary files will be downloaded directly to the iPhone/iPod Touch and the jailbreak process automatically performed.
If you are using a different iPhone firmware revision or haven’t yet jailbroken your 1.1.2 iPhone, see our complete 1.1.3 jailbreak guide and follow all of the steps except step #8, which can be done automatically with this new package.

Well, I upgraded with the new program and seem to have bricked my phone! I started from 1.1.1 and successfully upgraded to 1.1.2 going through oktaprep. I am stuck in activation mode and iTunes recognizes a phone is connected, but says, “There’s a problem with your iPhone. We’re sorry, the iPhone you connected may be damaged and cannot be activated for service. We recommend you visit your nearest Apple Store…”
Any advice?

can someone please help me out because I’m a bit confused…. I currently have 1.1.1 unlocked with the installer.app. Ive been a bit skeptical about upgrading to 1.1.2 or even 1.1.3 just because I’m on tmobile service and not AT&T. I’m also hong many third party apps that I put onto my phone using installer. If I was to upgrade to either one of these am i still going to be able to use my tmobile service?? And as far as my third party apps such as NES and labyrinth… Would i lose any of these cool addons??? Thanks again guys this site has been a great help to me!

update worked on 1.1.3 with installer and everything works even AT&T but every app installer installs doesn’t. Example customize starts but none of he changes you make take effect, Apollo and mobile chat both start but never can log in, services can’t seem to turn anything on or off, and openssh worked untill I restarted now it refuses any connection. Tried reinstalling bsd subsystem and installer doesn’t help.

Can someone PLEASE address the invalid SIM issue? The automatic jailbreak works great but leaves me with no phone functionality!

It’s great that these Jailbreaks are being released. Too bad they just don’t work. It’s like serving a nice filet mignon with a pile of steaming crap sitting on top, and saying it’s “magnifique!”

I got same problem ouislinfoot has, I’m with ATT. And after “JB113″ my phone shows “connect to iTunes”, if I connect it iTunes says “you got serious issues-blah-blah-blah….” go to Apple store to fix it. —-My point is its too early for this JB 113, even if its “official”

I have the same problems.
Plus, i was getting “Can’t connect to YouTube” message.
But “YouTube activation” from Installer, fixed this.
So, unfortunately, i think i’m going back to 1.1.2 until a better jailbreak method is released.
Or some fix, maybe?

I have an original iphone, jailbroken happily @ 1.1.2. I followed the above instructions for non computer upgrade to 1.1.3.
1. Used Installer to update all apps with updates, including subsystem (whatever that is) and community resources ..? something or other. I don’t know how to use terminal and don’t install anything that requires using the computer more than connecting to itunes. I’m not clear on what ssh, shell and other things are or why I should want them. After updating all existing apps and uninstalling a few unused games….
2. I installed Official 1.1.3 Upgrader - which installed something called WD updater (I think - I’m going by memory) on my desktop.
3. I clicked this WD updater thing which seemed to install something. Upon completion, my iphone went spastic. It kept flashing itself off and on refusing to respond to the power button, a reset by holding power and home buttons.
4. The only think I could think of to stop it was to plug it into my laptop. iTunes opened and told me to update to 1.1.3. Thinking I had completed all the steps to prepare for this, I did.
5. iphone restarted and all my apps were gone. Thinking I needed to install jailbreak again, I went to jailbreakme.com where I saw that installer was only available for 1.1.1 iphones.
Did I miss something? What did I do wrong?
I’m afraid if I use the complete install guide I’ll do damage with the terminal etc. since I have no concept of it.
I wonder if I should just wait until 3rd party apps are available. I can live without the games but I really need the voice recorder.
I’m grateful for any help.

I am another with a failure. Started with a successfully jailbroken 1.1.1. All steps went as predicted in the Guide. When done I ended up with a jailbroken 1.1.3 but no functionality and no apparent way to activate. I also got a lot of Bad SIM messages along the way. Hopefully the App Dev team is reading this and will come up with a solution. I hope that I can go back and do a restore and at least have a functioning jailed 1.1.3 with a working phone. I’ve spent 5 hrs doing this over and over. Time to go to bed.

I’ve got a little different issue because I’ve sinned! My iPhone has been jailbroken for the last five months (1.1.1 then 1.1.2 and 1.1.3); however, while on a business trip I haven’t read the fine print and upgraded to 1.1.3 using Nat True method (now seems the same day it was released). Now I’ve got 1.1.3 almost successfully jailbroken for a number of days (find me doesn’t work, neither do custom ringtones saved using Erica’s SendSong utility). I’d like to switch to official dev team jailbreak but it errors out as I don’t have 1.1.2.
I’ve got a number of 3rd party apps and would apprecaiate any help if there is a way to switch/upgrade to official jailbreak without the whole process of downgrading back to 1.1.1, wiping all of the stuff I already have and starting all over again.
Thanks,

Not sure what I did different but fifth time’s the charm. I now have a fully jailbroken 1.1.3 up from a jailbroken 1.1.1. Everything seems to be working fine. Maps navigation works with both Edge or WiFi on. Installed programs seem to be working well.

followed the jailbreak succesfuly to get to a 1.1.2. tried the automatic upgrade
outlined above- seemed OK then iphone launched something called hacktivate which took AGES to complete. At the end of it my iphone still says its running version1.1.2 but the oggicial 1.1.3 upgrade has vanished from the apps list- it shows in the installed list and asks if I want to uninstall it? Can use almost all ipod touh functions including maps, mail erc, but absolutely no phone or sms etc. Any ideas anyon?

And how do you get ATT to work after the upgrade? I have attempted to follow the “lockdown” instructions, only to find that OpenSSH does not show up in the Installer list — even after installing the Community Sources.

Completed upgrade again- sems ok thus far- have done the automatic final step as above, but the instruction on the iphone then says to launch something else from springboard. What’s springboard???

Sorted out the springboard issue (above)and run the upgrade from it as instructed. Now have 1.1.3 jailbroken phone which is lovely, but with no phone /sms service. Any tips on how to restore the phone functions please anyone?

I had a jailbroken 1.1.2 and did the new wireless upgrade to 1.1.3 all went well and appeared ok, phone worked etc. I then went to installer to get the apps and it indicated there was an upgrade for installer, so installed it and now nothing works, tells me to connect to itunes to activate. iTunes tells me there is a problem and it wont activate and I should contact apple or ATT.
Whats up??

Update
Got it to restore mode by holding home/power buttons for 30 seconds or so, itunes then recognized the restore mode. At this point I should have tried independence to activate the phone, but a slight panic set in and I proceeded with the restore. I now have a pure vanilla 1.1.3 phone. Guess I will now wait for the official version from apple, it is too tedious to rollback to the original jailbreak and then redo all.
But thanks for the ride for the past 6 months, it was fun.

Earlier in the week I attempted the 1.1.3 automatic update and ran into problems which at the time resulted in me restoring to the jailed 1.1.3 firmware.
Tonight I finally got the process to work, after a few recoveries and re-downgrades, but my phone is still named “untitled playlist” in iTunes. Does anyone know how to change the name?
In case you’re wondering, I downgraded to 1.1.1 following the steps listed on this site. Be sure to follow every step carefully. I skipped over a couple fine details (such as quitting Independence and iTunes at a couple different points) which required me to back up and do it again. Once I actually hit every step accurately I was able to make this work, and the phone reconnected to ATTs network without a hitch. Now that I’m back to 1.1.3 and have Installer and my favorite apps I’m a happy camper again.

For everyone whose Phone functionalities are f***** up, be sure you answer NO to all the questions at the beginning of the installation.
If your iPhone is in 1.1.3 jailbroken without phone functionalities, start it all again… yes, I know that’s long.
