Official dev team iPhone/iPod Touch 1.1.3 jailbreak released; instructions

UPDATE: We have posted a complete guide to using this jailbreak on any iPhone revision for both Macs and PCs.
The iPhone dev team has released its sanctioned version of a jailbreak for iPhones running software/firmware 1.1.3.
To apply this method, you must already have an iPhone or iPod touch that is running software/firmware 1.1.2 and is jailbroken (see instructions here). It must also have BSD Subsystem 1.5 or later installed. This installer does not upgrade the baseband. It only creates a log directory.
If your iPhone/iPod Touch is alrady running software/firmware 1.1.3, you will first need to downgrade and jailbreak the device.
The process works directly on the iPhone, and so is platform independent. To use the patch, you copy a series of files to your jailbroken iPhone then
The dev team says:
“Because this is a soft update, the kernel cache is not upgraded. You will need to ensure you are on v1.1.2, otherwise this will cause certain DRM functionality, such as Nikita (Apple’s new software installer for the SDK) to malfunction.”
In order to apply this update, download this file, make sure the following are true:
- Set Auto-Lock to “Never” in your settings to prevent the Phone from locking and shutting down your connection.
- This installer downloads a significant amount of data from Apple’s website. Be sure you have WiFi turned on so that you don’t use your mobile connection - or you’ll be sitting there a while!
- Be sure to perform this upgrade with the charge cable connected
then follow these instructions:
- Copy this entire distribution (all files) to / on your iPhone/iPod Touch So you will have /update-prebinding-path.txt and so on. Use this command to copy the files: scp -r ./* root@YOURIPHONEIPADDRESS:/
- Run the install.sh script on your iPhone sh install.sh
- The device will perform an upgrade and reboot into 1.1.3
The dev teams says:
“If something DOES go wrong, restore back to 1.1.2 / Jailbroken and try again. If you get something like illegal hardware instruction, just try rebooting
and it should be updated to 1.1.3. If you don’t get service, try a forced-power-down then power back on.”

Am I the only stupid one here? I attempted to use Safari to download the file directly to the phone, but continue to receive an error that the file cannot be downloaded. How do I get the necessary files on my 1.1.2 jailbroken Iphone? louislinfoot@gmail.com

I didn’t have any trouble getting the files copied to my iPod, but I didn’t have success running the script either:
# sh install.sh
: missing file operand
— help’ for more information
install.sh:cd:4: no such file or director: /
^M

sorry louislinfoot, but the 1.1.3 jailbreak file cannot be downloaded directly to the phone via safari.
you have to use your to computer to download onto your desktop, expand it, then transfer it onto your phone via a Terminal App.

I’ve found that 1.1.3 Ipod Touch cannot be downgraded to 1.1.1 or 1.1.2. It will not downgrade.

Mac PPC user. Have an OTB 1.1.2 downgraded to Jailbroken 1.1.1. In Canada, so not activated through AT&T. Want to upgrade to a jailbroken 1.1.2 before moving up to Jailbroken 1.1.3.
Downloaded the firmware from Step 7 above. Came down as a folder without the expected 1.1.2 restore file name and that didn’t work in option-click Update in iTunes. Tried various things to get the file into the familiar ipsw package icon (zipped the folder, then changed the extension to .ipsw and renamed it to the file name expected in Step 7).
Option-click of this file in iTunes fails, getting as far as “Preparing iPhone for software update” before stopping with the super-helpful information that the iphone “could not be updated - an unknown error occured (OxE80000013).” Can’t find a Google ref to the error number
Not sure what I’m doing wrong to get a jailbroken 1.1.1 upgraded to a jailbroken 1.1.2.
Any help greatly appreciated.

hey amandel did you select the hijackloader option?
if an att sub the select no to activate via itunes
My 1.1.2 is still upgrading to 1.1.3 is now at copying data to system image 2524files..

I am an att sub and selected no to install hijackloader and everything works…thanks for this awesome tutorial…I was a bit worried but very happy now…yess…

Actually I found an app in Installer, that is called Official 1.1.3 updater by Concieted Software. Where it downloads to .ipsw to the phone and unpacks it and decrypts it and then analysis the current system image and then jailbreaks it and writes the new image all on the phone itself no computer needed (I used mine so the bat wouldnt die). And sure enough it worked there is Installer, It moves it to the top but it works its little magic.
