Remove your iPhone data plan

In an unexpected move, AT&T is now allowing you to remove the unlimited EDGE data feature from your monthly iPhone service plan. Dropping the service will save you $20 a month, but you’ll lose several features in the process. Not only will you be restricted to using Wi-Fi to access the Internet, but you’ll also lose the iPhone’s visual voice-mail feature and the ability to send or receive your free allotment of text messages. That’s a lot to lose, but if you avoid using EDGE in favor of Wi-Fi and don’t mind saying goodbye to visual voice mail, you might find it a fair trade for the chance to save $240 a year. And to avoid paying individually for every sent and received text message, you can always add one of AT&T’s standard SMS packages to your service plan.

I rarely use EDGE, but when I need it, I NEED it. Also, not having to listen to that annoying female voice and the even more annoying instructions of how to LISTEN to my voice mail, PLUS, being able to quickly determine which messages are important and which can wait is WELL WORTH the $240 a year.
The reason I bought the iPhone was to simplify my life. I sold my iBook in order to buy the iPhone, and haven’t looked back.
