1.1.2 firmware hits iTunes, and custom ringtone “hack” is back

Yes we know that the 1.1.2 firmware has been out and about for a few days now, but it has finally officially hit iTunes. Also, since we didn’t mention this yesterday, the custom ringtone “hack” is back. If you have iTunes 7.5 and iPhone firmware 1.1.2, you can just take any .m4a file that is 30 seconds or less in playback time, rename it to .m4r, double-click to add to iTunes, and voila, iTunes recognizes it as a ring tone.

I have tried this on my iPhone with v1.1.2 it works smoothly. I have made two ringtones from hindi songs.

Couldn’t get this to work as stated. The ringtone posts in ITunes, posts as a ringtone, syncs fine, but fails to play on the phone. I tried 2 but received the same results, they are both less than 30 sec.

A warning that this resets Springboard would have been nice. My iPhone is bare again :(

Disregard the comment it does work, once you post the ringtone in ITunes, then delete but keep the files. Navigate to the file then change it to .m4r and double-click it to add to iTunes where it will post as a ringtone. Sync and you are on your way.
