You must have iTunes 7.4.x to receive the iPhone Software/Firmware 1.1.1 update

It appears that you must be running the latest version of iTunes in order to properly retrieve the iPhone Software/Firmware 1.1.1 update. If you are running iTunes 7.3.1 or earlier, you will receive a message indicating that your iPhone’s software is already up-to-date.
One iPhone Atlas reader writes:
“I have held off updating to iTunes 7.4.2 due to all the other problems users had been experiencing with syncing their phone, showing up in the pane, etc. Looks like now I will have to update iTunes in order to get the newest iPhone firmware. Go figure.”

Since I wanted the 1.1.1 update, I upgraded from iTunes 7.3.x to 7.4.2.
No problems with iTunes and sync. Matter of fact, it fixed something. After a while, iTunes wouldn’t automatically launch when I plugged in the iPhone (though the phone showed on the USB2 bus).
After updating iTunes, I launched it without the iPhone present, so I could answer the license question and let it start the first time. Then I quit iTunes, plugged in the iPhone, and away we go.
Note: I’ve never hacked my iPhone.
