UK iPhone demo units run updated firmware 1.1.1 with iTunes WiFi store
We previously reported that, bolstering speculation spurred by an image on Apple’s iPhone store credit page that shows software version 1.1.1 (3B13) — the latest current release is 1.0.2 (1C28) — we’ve received word from reliable sources that an iPhone software/firmware update is imminent.
It now appears the demonstration iPhone units present at Apple’s UK launch event are running the updated firmware revision — 1.1.1 — which includes the WiFi iTunes store; this is one of the features we noted was expected in the firmware revision. Other expected enhancements include playback controls while sleeping/locked, international/multiple keyboard support, bug fixes/stability enhancements, and the possible addition of a Safari debug mode as is sported by the iPod touch.
There is also a significant likelihood that this update will undo unlocks (allowing the iPhone to be used on networks other than AT&T) that make use of a buffer overflow, including the iPhoneSIMFree method, and the freely available iUnlock method.

“we’ve received word from reliable sources that an iPhone software/firmware update is imminent.” That’s like saying I’ve heard from reliable sources that the stock market is going to open tomorrow morning. It’s just going to happen barring some worldwide catastrophic disaster.
As for the likelihood that the update will undo unlocks? Pretty much guaranteed. Updates thus far have re-written the ROM or the RAM, or whatever is they are calling it nowadays. And pretty much the whole chunk, not just the parts that were changed. So at a minimum, I think your apps may still be present, but getting them to be acknowledged by the UI or Springboard, whatever you want to call it, will need to be re-written and integrated back into the OS. The options available now are only there due to an exploited bug that you can almost guarantee will be fixed with the next big update. Once fixed, a new method will have to be discovered.
