Calls going to old phone: fully transferring phone numbers from another provider may take 24 hours

Posted 30 June 2007 @ 10am in Troubleshooting

Several readers have reported an issue where, after activating new iPhones and requesting number transfer from another wireless provider (T-Mobile, Sprint, etc.), calls are still being directed to their old phone. Note that the number transfer process can take 24 hours (or more), and must be complete before the new AT&T iPhone number will properly receive phone calls.

You’ll get a text message on your iPhone once incoming calls are ready to start coming into it. Outgoing calls should work fine in the meantime.

I am in a strange situation - Calls from Cingular and other providers go to the iPhone, and calls from TMobile customers (my old provider) go to my old phone.

Cingular say they’ve been unable to resolve this, give them 2 more days (they’ve had 2 already). TMobile says they’ve transferred the number and closed out the account.

Any ideas?
